Spivak Lipton is a proud support of the Peggy Browning Fund whose mission is to educate and inspire the next generation of advocates for workplace justice.
In the summer of 2025, Spivak Lipton welcomed Batia Katz as a Peggy Browning Fellow. Batia is a 3rd year law student at New York University School of Law and a Vanderbilt Scholar. Prior to attending law school, Batia worked at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., and was a core organizer of Urban’s first employee union and served on the union’s bargaining committee.
During her fellowship, Batia provided research assistance on union organizing campaigns and elections, collective bargaining issues, employment law issues concerning the proper classification of employees, and ERISA-related litigation matters. Alongside attorneys from the firm, Batia was able to prepare for and attend contract negotiations, Board of Trustees meetings for the Firm’s fund clients, and a settlement conference conducted by a Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York in a case alleging claims of national origin and sex discrimination as well as wage claims under the FLSA and New York Labor Law.
